Austin City Limits (opens in a new tab) begins this week with The xx among the headliners, making their debut album a fitting full-listen pick. xx turns restraint into tension: clipped guitar, spare beats, and two voices moving toward and away from each other. Start with “Intro,” notice how silence frames “Crystalised” and “Islands,” then let the slow ache of “Infinity” and “Stars” carry the record home.
